Beloved by kings and aristocrats, it has inspired artists and poets throughout the centuries—“the Glorious Eden,” as Lord Byron called it. Sintra captivates visitors with its magic and mystique, boasting a wealth of natural and architectural heritage, which is why a visit here should be carefully planned.

This is just one of the many itineraries available to you, designed to give you an absolutely memorable day; however, you can customize the tour to suit your preferences:

  • Departure from the hotel/accommodation in Lisbon or the surrounding area, heading toward Sintra;
  • A visit to one of the many palaces—we usually choose the Pena National Palace, considered the “jewel” of Sintra that crowns the mountain range, one of the last royal residences, and an icon of 19th-century Romanticism—entrance fees not included;
  • A visit to the historic center of the town of Sintra, where you’ll have the chance to stroll through the narrow streets, explore the local craft shops, and sample the local pastries—Queijadas and Travesseiros de Sintra;

Lunch at a nearby restaurant (not included) to enjoy regional specialties, where kid, octopus, fish, and seafood are among the usual options;

  • We head to Cascais along the coast, where Cabo da Roca awaits us so we can take in the blue, refreshing Atlantic with breathtaking views at the westernmost point of the European continent;
  • Cascais awaits us with all the charm and elegance of a fishing village, captivating visitors with its laid-back atmosphere;
  • Return to the hotel/accommodation via Estoril, famous for its casino (one of the largest in Europe) and its history as a refuge for spies and exiled royalty during World War II

What should I carry?

  • Comfortable clothing and footwear appropriate for the season
  • Light jacket (Sintra has its own microclimate and temperatures are usually lower there)
